vermectin is derived from the avermectins, a family of potent broad spectrum antiparasitic agents which are isolated from fermentation of streptomyces avermitilis. It is very potent nematocide and ectoparasiticide by oral and parenteral routes, but has no activity against flukes. Ivermectin has an acceptable safety margin, the dose required is very small and its activity persists for long after dosing
